Public Environment Report

As part of Windlab’s Federal approval process for the Upper Burdekin Wind Farm a Public Environment Report (PER) has been submitted to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment.

During November assessment officers from the Environmental Approvals Division visited the Upper Burdekin project area to gain an on-ground understanding of the project’s location and potential impacts and are currently completing an adequacy review prior to the report’s publication.

A notification will be sent to all addresses on the Upper Burdekin email distribution list with a link to the PER when available for review and public comment.

Development map of the Mount Fox area

Windlab has received several queries about development in the Mount Fox area unrelated to the Upper Burdekin Wind Farm. To assist the community in identifying different project areas a map has been prepared showing the location of different developments in the area.

The Upper Burdekin Wind Farm project area is located on a single pastoral lease and will feed into Powerlink’s new Guybal Munjin Switching Station located on Knuckledown Road.

Other developments in the Mount Fox region include the Genex Kidston Connection Project and the Mt Fox Energy Park, these projects have no connection to Windlab or the Upper Burdekin Wind Farm.

A design study is underway for the transport route to site

Transport studies

The transport route for construction of the Upper Burdekin Wind Farm will begin at the Townsville Port, travelling along the Flinders Highway to Charters Towers and up the Gregory Developmental Road to Mount Fox Road. The route is currently undergoing a detailed design study which will identify any potential issues and areas where road upgrades will be required. Once the design is completed and reviewed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and the relevant councils a contractor will be engaged by Windlab to upgrade the roads.

During construction trucks will be scheduled to arrive and depart site in the early morning to ensure minimum disturbance to the Mount Fox community.
